As a former recruiter, I’ve seen numerous resumes of young individuals, and experienced individuals. As a recruiter, we spend only seven seconds! That is it! In those seven seconds, your resume must tell us about you and your skills.

Below are some tips to avoid and what to replace with them.

Words you should not use

  • Did
  • Helped
  • Finished
  • Worked
  • Completed
  • Had
  • Assisted
  • Selected

Believe me, as a recruiter we’ve seen those words being used in countless resumes. So stop it!

Instead, use these words! (Using strong words impresses recruiters and show them that you're valuable)

  • Addressed
  • Articulated
  • Authored
  • Collaborated
  • Communicated
  • Consulted
  • Developed (Personal Favourite)
  • Directed
  • Incorporated
  • Marketed
  • Presented
  • Promoted
  • Proposed
  • Resolved
  • Analyzed
  • Critiqued
  • Inspected
  • Solved
  • Created
  • Developed
  • Conducted
